## Biography

Keiji Sada was a Japanese actor active from 1947 to 1964. His real name was Kanichi Nakai. He won the Best Actor award at the 7th Blue Ribbon Awards for his performances in *Anata Kaimasu* (I Will Buy You, 1956) and *Taifū Sōdōki* (1956). He was the father of actors Kiichi Nakai and Kie Nakai.

Sada was born on 9 December 1926 in Shimogyō-ku, Kyoto. After studying at Waseda University, he joined Shochiku Studios. He made his screen debut in Keisuke Kinoshita's *Phoenix* (1947), opposite Kinuyo Tanaka.

He appeared in several films by Yasujirō Ozu, including *Equinox Flower* (1958), *Good Morning* (1959), *Late Autumn* (1960) and *An Autumn Afternoon* (1962). He also had supporting roles in Masaki Kobayashi's *The Human Condition* films (1959). Sada died on 17 August 1964 in a car accident in Nirasaki, Yamanashi, aged 37.
