Kelly Bishop is an American actress and dancer. Born Carole Jane Bishop on 28 February 1944 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she trained in ballet and began her career as a dancer in New York before moving into acting and musical theatre.

She originated the role of Sheila in the original Broadway production of *A Chorus Line* (1975), winning the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Bishop is best known for playing matriarch Emily Gilmore in the television series *Gilmore Girls* (2000–2007) and its 2016 revival *Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life*, and as Marjorie Houseman in the film *Dirty Dancing* (1987). She has appeared in numerous other television series including *The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel*.
