## Biography

Ken Taylor was an English screenwriter. Born Kenneth Heywood Taylor on 10 November 1922 in Bolton, Lancashire, he was educated at Gresham’s School and trained in theatre direction at the Old Vic Theatre School after service in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

He wrote for television over four decades, specialising in adaptations. His best-known work includes the 1984 Granada series *The Jewel in the Crown*, a 14-episode adaptation of Paul Scott’s Raj Quartet novels, and the screenplay for the 1987 Miss Marple television film *Sleeping Murder*. Other credits include adaptations of *Mansfield Park* (1983) and *The Camomile Lawn* (1992).

Taylor received an Emmy nomination for *The Jewel in the Crown* and was named Writer of the Year by the Royal Television Society. He died on 17 April 2011 in Cornwall.
