## Biography

Kevin Clarke is an English playwright and screenwriter. He grew up in Birkenhead, Merseyside, left school at 16 to work as a guitarist and later studied drama at Bretton Hall, Leeds. After teaching drama in London he directed his first play, The Jackpot, at the Finborough Theatre in 1987, which led to a place on the first BBC Television Writers training course.

Clarke has written more than 150 episodes of television drama. His credits include episodes of Minder, Wish Me Luck, Wycliffe, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, The Last Detective and Casualty. He wrote the three-part Doctor Who story Silver Nemesis (1988) for the programme's twenty-fifth anniversary and later novelised it for Target Books. He was a principal writer on The Bill for several years and created the character Roxanne, which gave Paul O'Grady his television breakthrough. Clarke later obtained an Open University degree in history, read postgraduate history at Oxford and gained an MA in Renaissance Studies at Birkbeck, University of London.
