## Biography

Kikue Mōri was a Japanese actress. Born Kobayashi Kiku on 3 November 1903 in Numata, Gunma Prefecture, she trained at the Shin Geki Research Institute and made her stage debut in 1929. She founded the Mori Kikue Theater Institute in Kyoto in 1946, later renamed the Kurumiza Theater Company, and remained active in theatre as both performer and director.

Her film career began in 1937 with *Karayuki-san*. She appeared in numerous productions, including Kenji Mizoguchi’s *The Life of Oharu* (1952), *Ugetsu* (1953) and *Sansho the Bailiff* (1954), as well as *Gate of Hell* (1953), *A Geisha* (1953) and *An Actor’s Revenge* (1963). She continued working in film and television into the 1980s.

Mōri died on 20 August 2001 in Shizuoka, Japan.
