## Biography

Kit Pedler (11 June 1927 – 27 May 1981) was an English medical scientist and science fiction writer. He trained in medicine and became head of the electron microscopy department at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University of London. He contributed to BBC science programmes before turning to television writing.

In the mid-1960s he served as unofficial scientific adviser to *Doctor Who*. Working with story editor Gerry Davis, he co-wrote several serials, including *The Tenth Planet* (1966), *The Moonbase* (1967) and *The Tomb of the Cybermen* (1967), and supplied story outlines for *The War Machines*, *The Wheel in Space* and *The Invasion*. Their collaboration introduced the Cybermen. Pedler and Davis later created and wrote for the BBC series *Doomwatch* (1970).
