We value that unsettling presence, though *Colony* also shows the limit: he can make a human scene more interesting without repairing the film around it. In *Colony* (2026), Koo Kyo-hwan makes the scientist Seo Young-cheol unnerving despite the familiarity of the villainous role. The film gives its infected bodies more distinction than its survivors, but he makes the human scenes less predictable. We felt uneasy watching him because he made it harder to know what to expect from an otherwise recognisable character. We rate him for that ability to find something troublesome in a stock part, even when the film itself earns only a qualified recommendation. Independent features and short films came before the larger commercial roles, with *Jane* (2016) and *Maggie* (2018) bringing recognition. *Peninsula* (2020), in which he played Captain Seo, was his first major commercial film role.
