## Biography

Kunihiko Murai is a Japanese composer and producer. Born in Tokyo on 4 March 1945, he graduated from Keiō University in 1967 and began his career as a composer that year.

He composed the music for Jūzō Itami’s *Tampopo* (1985), for which he also served as music director and appeared in an uncredited cameo. His other film scores include *Shogun Assassin* (1980), *Lone Wolf and Cub: White Heaven in Hell* (1974), *Hanzo the Razor: Sword of Justice* (1972) and *Zatoichi at Large* (1972).

Murai founded the music publishing company Alfa Music in 1969 and the record label Alfa Records in 1977. As a producer he worked with artists including Yellow Magic Orchestra. He has written numerous popular songs and Olympic themes.
