We like his patience with them: *The Sheep Detectives* is warm and funny, though its humans could use some of the animals' care. The sheep in *The Sheep Detectives* (2026) are trying to understand people, and Kyle Balda knows how much comedy that allows. He keeps their behaviour recognisably sheep-like, down to their short attention spans, even when the voices have complicated feelings to convey. We were moved by the flock's attempts to understand death, because Balda allows their confusion to be funny without treating their distress as a joke. Julia Louis-Dreyfus gives the sheep detective a persuasive voice, and he generally resists making every moment a request for affection.
