## Biography

Laïla Marrakchi is a Franco-Moroccan film director and screenwriter. She was born on 10 December 1975 in Casablanca, Morocco, and studied at the French lycée Lyautey there before earning a master's degree in film and audiovisual studies from Paris III University.

Her first feature film, *Marock* (2005), screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. Her second feature, *Rock the Casbah* (2013), premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She has directed episodes of the television series *The Bureau* (2015–2018), *Marseille* (2018) and *The Eddy* (2020), as well as the documentary *Zwaj El Waqt* (2017). She is married to filmmaker Alexandre Aja.
