## Biography

Lance Percival (1933–2015) was an English actor, comedian and singer. He first gained prominence in the early 1960s performing improvised topical calypsos on the satirical BBC television programme *That Was The Week That Was*. He later became known for voice work as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in the animated series *The Beatles* (1965–1967) and as Old Fred in the feature film *Yellow Submarine* (1968).

Percival appeared in numerous British comedy films, including *Carry On Cruising* (1962), *The V.I.P.s* (1963), *The Yellow Rolls-Royce* (1964) and *Too Late the Hero* (1970). He had further roles in *Up Pompeii!* (1971) and its sequels. Educated at Sherborne School, he worked in advertising and performed with a calypso group in Canada before returning to Britain and entering revue and film work. In later years he was a successful after-dinner speaker.
