## Biography

Larry Weinstein is a Canadian film director of documentaries, performance films and dramas. Born in Toronto in 1956, he studied at York University and co-founded the production company Rhombus Media in 1979.

His directorial debut was the 1984 short *Making Overtures: The Story of a Community Orchestra*, which received an Academy Award nomination. He produced *Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould* (1993) and has directed numerous films centred on music and the creative process, including *Ravel's Brain* (2001), *Beethoven's Hair* (2005) and *Mozartballs* (2006). His work has been broadcast in more than 40 countries and honoured with retrospectives at festivals worldwide.

Weinstein has received three International Emmy Awards, 12 Gemini or Canadian Screen Awards for direction, and an honorary doctorate from York University. In 2015 he established Larry Weinstein Productions.
