He was educated at the Aarhus School of Business and began his career in New York, where he worked as an assistant to producer Scott Rudin. In 2004 he co-founded the production company Parts & Labor with Jay Van Hoy; the partnership ended in 2016. In 2019 Knudsen co-founded Square Peg with director Ari Aster.
