She began her career as a jazz singer in Rome before making her film debut in Federico Fellini's *La Dolce Vita* (1960). She appeared in seven films directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini, including *Theorem* (1968), for which she received the Volpi Cup for Best Actress, and *The Canterbury Tales* (1972). Betti also worked with Bernardo Bertolucci, playing Regina in *1900* (1976), and with other directors including Mario Bava. Her later credits include *Fat Girl* (2001). In 2001 she directed the documentary *Pier Paolo Pasolini e la ragione di un sogno*.
