## Biography

Lawrence D. Cohen is an American screenwriter and producer. He wrote the screenplay for Brian De Palma's film *Carrie* (1976), adapted from Stephen King's debut novel.

Cohen also adapted King's *It* (1990) and *The Tommyknockers* (1993) for television miniseries, as well as Peter Straub's *Ghost Story* (1981) for the cinema. He wrote the book for the stage musical version of *Carrie*, which premiered on Broadway in 1988 and was revived Off-Broadway in 2012. Earlier in his career he contributed to Martin Scorsese's documentary *Italianamerican* (1974) and worked on *Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore* (1974).
