## Biography

Lawrence Dobkin (also credited as Larry Dobkin) was an American character actor, television director and screenwriter. Born in New York City on 16 September 1919, he began in radio during the Golden Age and moved into film and television from the late 1940s. He appeared in supporting roles in films including *The Ten Commandments* (1956), *Sweet Smell of Success* (1957), *North by Northwest* (1959) and *Patton* (1970).

Dobkin directed episodes of numerous series, including *The Fugitive* (1963) and the *Star Trek* (1966) episode 'Charlie X'. He later guest-starred as Ambassador Kell in *Star Trek: The Next Generation* (1987). Other directing credits include episodes of *The Munsters* (1964) and *The Waltons* (1972–1981). He narrated the series *Naked City* (1958–1963) and received an Emmy nomination for acting. Dobkin died in Los Angeles on 28 October 2002.
