## Biography

Lawrence Turman (28 November 1926 – 1 July 2023) was an American film producer. Born in Los Angeles, he produced more than 40 films across a career spanning six decades.

He is best known as producer of *The Graduate* (1967), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Other credits include *The Thing* (1982), *Short Circuit* (1986), *The River Wild* (1994) and *American History X* (1998). Turman also directed two films: *The Marriage of a Young Stockbroker* (1971) and *Second Thoughts* (1983).

With partner David Foster he formed the Turman-Foster Company. From 1991 until his retirement he directed the Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California. He wrote the book *So You Want to Be a Producer* (2005).
