## Biography

Le Vicomte de Noailles, also known as Charles de Noailles, was a French nobleman and film producer. Born on 26 September 1891 in Paris, he died on 26 April 1981.

With his wife Marie-Laure de Noailles, he financed and produced several avant-garde films from the late 1920s onwards, often commissioning one each year as a birthday gift. His credits include *L'Âge d'or* (1930), directed by Luis Buñuel, and *The Blood of a Poet* (1932), directed by Jean Cocteau. He also produced Man Ray's *The Mysteries of the Chateau de De* (1929).

The couple's support for surrealist and experimental cinema ended after the public scandal surrounding *L'Âge d'or*, after which they withdrew the film from circulation for decades.
