## Biography

Lee Hwo-kyoung is a South Korean production designer. He studied printmaking at Hongik University and entered the film industry after a childhood interest in movie magazines. He began as a set designer in 2003 on Bong Joon-ho’s *Memories of Murder* and Park Chan-wook’s *Oldboy*, and made his debut as production designer in 2006 on the crime action film *Sunflower*.

He is known for his production design on films including *The Yellow Sea* (2010), *Miracle in Cell No. 7* (2013), *The Wailing* (2016), *Tunnel* (2016), *The Battleship Island* (2017), the series *Kingdom* (2019), *Kingdom: Ashin of the North* (2021) and *Smugglers* (2023). He received technical awards and art direction prizes for *The Battleship Island* at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards, Buil Film Awards and Blue Dragon Awards in 2017. His credits also include production design on *Hope* (2026).
