## Biography

Lennie Mayne (born Leonard Edward Mainprize) was an Australian television director. Born in Sydney on 8 November 1927, he trained initially as an electrician before becoming a ballet dancer and choreographer. He moved to London in 1953 and later worked as a director for the BBC.

Mayne directed four serials of *Doctor Who* (1963): *The Curse of Peladon* (1972), *The Three Doctors* (1972–1973), *The Monster of Peladon* (1974) and *The Hand of Fear* (1976). He was one of only three directors to helm episodes featuring the first four actors to play the Doctor. His other credits include episodes of *Doomwatch*, *The Onedin Line*, *The Brothers*, *Warship* and *Softly, Softly: Task Force*.

He was married to actress Frances Pidgeon. Mayne died on 20 May 1977 following a boating accident at sea.
