## Biography

Leo de Laforgue (9 February 1902 – 27 May 1980) was a German writer, director and cinematographer. After studies in engineering, psychology and art history, and work as a stage designer for Max Reinhardt and as an assistant at UFA, he entered film in the 1930s.

He was part of the camera team on Leni Riefenstahl’s *Olympia* (1938). Post-war he directed and wrote numerous documentaries, notably *Symphonie einer Weltstadt* (1950), *Kanaillen* (1958) and *Gigant Berlin* (1964), often focusing on Berlin. He also supplied the manuscript for Helmut Käutner’s *Unter den Brücken* (1945).
