## Biography

Leo Gorcey (1917–1969) was an American stage and film actor. He is best known for portraying the leader of a group of streetwise youths in the Dead End Kids, East Side Kids and Bowery Boys film series.

Born in New York City, Gorcey began his career in the 1935 Broadway production of *Dead End*. He reprised the role of Spit in the 1937 film adaptation and went on to appear in seven Dead End Kids films (1937–1939), 21 East Side Kids films (1940–1945) and 41 Bowery Boys films (1946–1956). His brother David Gorcey and father Bernard Gorcey were also actors.
