## Biography

Leo Kempinski was a German-American composer, organist and conductor. Born in Ruda, Germany, in 1891, he immigrated to the United States in 1908. He studied at Breslau University and the Juilliard School, and was a pupil of Julius Gloger and Percy Goetschius.

He composed stock music and incidental pieces for silent films in the 1920s, publishing through houses including Photo Play Music Co. His work appeared in *Greed* (1924) and *Scaramouche* (1923). Pieces from his Incidental Symphonies series were used in *Wings* (1927). He joined ASCAP in 1927 and later worked as a staff arranger, conductor and composer for NBC, conducting radio's "The Army Hour" between 1943 and 1946. He died in 1958.
