## Fi1m on Leo Woodall

> Leo Woodall is at his most persuasive when a character has reason to be uncomfortable. We like the wary physical detail of *Tuner*; writing that settles for making him attractive leaves too much of the actor unused.

In *Tuner* (2026), Leo Woodall keeps Niki White’s shoulders raised and his eyes narrowed, ready for the next noise. The piano tuner has painfully acute hearing, and Woodall makes the daily discomfort clear before the heist story puts that hearing to use. We felt for Niki because Woodall makes the strain of listening visible in his posture. Daniel Roher’s film follows a familiar plot, but the performance resists the easy notion that an affliction is simply a useful gift. We want more of this Woodall, attentive to what a character has to endure without advertising how hard he is acting.

His breakthrough as Jack in the second series of *The White Lotus* (2022) established the appeal of a young man whose charm could turn threatening. Dexter Mayhew in *One Day* (2024) gave him a leading role spanning two decades of a character’s life. Those parts made room for swagger and vulnerability, the combination he is repeatedly asked to supply.

*Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy* (2025) offers the clearest warning about casting him chiefly as an attractive prospect. His Roxster says the right things, but the script never settles how seriously to take him. Opposite Renée Zellweger, he is left with good manners and too little character; Chiwetel Ejiofor’s quieter Scott Walliker gets the more convincing conversations. The film is worth an evening for the feeling its older actors bring to it, but it is a poor place to judge what Woodall can do.

The title role in *Vladimir* (2026) is another reminder that prominence does not guarantee much to play: Rachel Weisz’s professor is the more rewarding character. Back in *Tuner*, Dustin Hoffman’s grumbling Harry Horowitz and Havana Rose Liu’s quick-minded Ruthie help make the familiar story worth following. Hoffman has the funny lines, and Liu helps the romance feel adult; Woodall keeps Niki’s discomfort present without making it a display. Start with *Tuner*, provided a familiar heist plot is no obstacle.
