## Biography

Leon Tokatyan was an American television writer and producer. Born in New York on 28 December 1925, he served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 before beginning his career as a tour guide for NBC. He wrote for numerous series from the 1950s onwards, including episodes of *Deadline*, *Decoy*, *The Virginian* and *Ironside*.

His credits include a 1967 episode of *Judd for the Defense*, for which he received an Edgar Award, and the 1976 *Kojak* episode 'Black Thorn'. Tokatyan developed *Lou Grant* (1977–1982), wrote its pilot and several episodes, and won a Writers Guild of America Award for the 1978 episode 'Vet'. He also created *Here's Boomer* (1980–1981) and contributed to *Starman*, *Hooperman* and *Hawkeye*. Tokatyan died in Los Angeles on 13 May 1997.
