## Biography

Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer, songwriter and composer. Born in Montreal in 1934, he began publishing poetry and novels in the 1950s before releasing his debut album, *Songs of Leonard Cohen*, in 1967.

Cohen's existing songs were used by director Robert Altman as the soundtrack for the 1971 film *McCabe & Mrs. Miller*. He continued to record and perform until his death in 2016.
