## Biography

Leonard Mlodinow is an American theoretical physicist, screenwriter and author. Born in Chicago in 1954, he earned a PhD in theoretical physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and held a postdoctoral position and faculty role at the California Institute of Technology before leaving full-time academia in 1986 to pursue writing.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s he wrote episodes for several television series, including *MacGyver* (1987), *Star Trek: The Next Generation* (for which he also served as story editor), *Hunter* (1989) and *Night Court* (1990). He later returned to academic work at Caltech while writing popular science books, several of which became bestsellers, including *The Drunkard's Walk* (2008) and, with Stephen Hawking, *The Grand Design* (2010).
