## Biography

Leonard Mudie (born Leonard Mudie Cheetham) was an English character actor. Born on 11 April 1883 in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, he began his stage career in 1908 with Annie Horniman's company at the Gaiety Theatre in Manchester. He made his Broadway debut in 1914 and appeared in numerous productions there until 1948. Mudie moved to Hollywood in 1932 and remained based there until his death on 14 April 1965.

He made his film debut in *The Mummy* (1932) as Professor Pearson. Among his other screen roles were Baron Jeffreys in *Captain Blood* (1935), Town Crier in *The Adventures of Robin Hood* (1938), McKenna in *Foreign Correspondent* (1940), Dr Blake in *Limelight* (1952) and the Athletic Club Clerk in *Kiss Me Deadly* (1955). He also appeared uncredited as the Florist in *Top Hat* (1935).

Mudie transitioned to television after the war, appearing in episodes of *Adventures of Superman* and as a survivor in the *Star Trek* pilot episode "The Cage" (filmed 1964). He played Commander Barnes in the *Bomba, the Jungle Boy* film series.
