## Biography

Leonard White (5 November 1916 – 2 January 2016) was a British actor, director and television producer. He began his career in theatre as an actor, appearing in productions including Christopher Fry's *A Sleep of Prisoners* in 1951, before moving into directing and then producing for television.

In 1960 he joined ABC Weekend TV as an associate producer under Sydney Newman. White co-created *The Avengers* with Newman and produced its first 40 episodes from 1961, overseeing the shift from gritty crime drama to stylish espionage. His other credits include the anthology series *Armchair Theatre*, *Police Surgeon* and *Out of This World*.
