## Biography

Lester Powell (14 June 1912 – 1993) was a British screenwriter, radio dramatist and crime fiction author. He began his career as a journalist after working in various trades and serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps during the Second World War, where he was wounded at Dunkirk. He later contributed to BBC radio services and, in 1947, created the long-running detective series *Philip Odell*, which continued until 1961 and formed the basis for several novels and a 1952 film adaptation, *Lady in the Fog*.

Powell wrote episodes for British television series in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including two for *The Avengers* (1961): "The Deadly Air" and "Mission to Montreal". His other credits include work on *Armchair Theatre*, *Ivanhoe* and various anthology series.
