## Biography

Lila Kedrova was a Russian-born French actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Madame Hortense in the film *Zorba the Greek* (1964). She later reprised the role in the Broadway musical adaptation, for which she received the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 1984.

Kedrova began her career in French theatre and film, making her screen debut in *Ultimatum* (1938). After appearing in several French productions, including *Razzia* (1955) and *Main Street* (1956), she gained international recognition with *Zorba the Greek*. Her other film roles include Countess Kuchinska in *Torn Curtain* (1966) and appearances in *The Tenant* (1976) and *Some Girls* (1988).

She died on 16 February 2000 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
