## Biography

Lodewijk de Boer (1937–2004) was a Dutch composer, actor, writer and theatre director. Born in Amsterdam, he studied viola at the Conservatorium Amsterdam and played with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from 1961. He later worked as a freelance musician, improviser and composer for film and theatre.

De Boer composed the score for Marleen Gorris’s *A Question of Silence* (1982) and contributed music to other films including *Broken Mirrors* (1984). As an actor he appeared in shorts and features such as *Contact* (1974) and *Polleke* (2003). His theatre work included the play *The Family* (filmed in 1973) and libretti for operas by Peter Schat and Theo Loevendie.
