## Biography

Lolis Eric Elie is an American writer, journalist, documentary filmmaker and food historian. Born in New Orleans on 10 April 1963, he is the son of civil rights attorney Lolis Edward Elie. He studied at the Wharton School, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and the University of Virginia.

Elie was a columnist and reporter for the New Orleans Times-Picayune from 1995 to 2009. He wrote and co-produced the documentary *Faubourg Treme: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans* (2008). He served as story editor and writer on the HBO series *Treme* (2010), contributing teleplays and stories, and received an NAACP Award for his work on the show.

His other television credits include writing for *Hell on Wheels* (2011), *Bosch* (2015), *The Man in the High Castle* (2015) and *Greenleaf* (2016). He has also written books on Southern food and barbecue, including *Smokestack Lightning: Adventures in the Heart of Barbecue Country*.
