## Biography

Lou Jacobi, born Louis Harold Jacobovitch, was a Canadian actor and comedian. He was born in Toronto on 28 December 1913 and began acting as a child, making his stage debut in 1924 in a Yiddish theatre production in Toronto. He later worked in London's West End before his Broadway debut in 1955 as Hans van Daan in *The Diary of Anne Frank*.

Jacobi reprised the role in the 1959 film version. His other film credits include *Irma la Douce* (1963), *Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex *But Were Afraid to Ask* (1972), *Arthur* (1981), *My Favorite Year* (1982) and *Avalon* (1990). He also appeared in television series and was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 1999. Jacobi died in New York on 23 October 2009.
