## Biography

Louis Chavance (1907–1979) was a French screenwriter who also worked as a film editor and assistant director. He began in the industry in the early 1930s as an assistant director and editor on several films.

He edited Jean Vigo's *L'Atalante* (1934) after principal photography. His best-known work is the original screenplay for *Le Corbeau* (1943), written in 1933 and later adapted with Henri-Georges Clouzot. He contributed screenplays, adaptations and dialogue to numerous other French films through the 1950s, including *La Marie du Port* (1950) and *The Light Across the Street* (1955).
