## Biography

Louis Hagen was a German-British film producer and author. Born in Potsdam, he was the son of a Berlin banker who financed Lotte Reiniger’s early work. As a child he assisted with silhouette cutting on her first feature, *The Adventures of Prince Achmed* (1926), on which he is credited as producer.

Hagen emigrated to Britain in 1936. After wartime service he founded Primrose Film Productions in London and produced more than twenty silhouette-animated shorts with Reiniger during the 1950s, including adaptations of fairy tales such as *The Gallant Little Taylor* (1954) and *Jack and the Beanstalk* (1955). He also wrote books on wartime experiences and German history.
