## Biography

Louis Marks was an English screenwriter and producer, primarily for BBC Television. Born in London in 1928, he read history at Balliol College, Oxford, and gained a DPhil before entering television in the late 1950s.

He wrote for series including *The Adventures of Robin Hood*, *Danger Man* and *Doomwatch*. For *Doctor Who* (1963) he contributed the scripts for *Planet of Giants* (1964), *Day of the Daleks* (1972), *Planet of Evil* (1975) and *The Masque of Mandragora* (1976). He also served as script editor on *The Stone Tape* (1972).

As a producer his credits included the BBC adaptations of the Theban plays (1984–1986) and George Eliot’s *Middlemarch* (1994). Marks died in 2010.
