## Biography

Louise Beavers was an American actress. She appeared in more than 100 films between the 1920s and 1960, most often in the role of a maid or domestic servant. Her credits include *Make Way for Tomorrow* (1937) as Mamie, *Imitation of Life* (1934) as Delilah Johnson, *Holiday Inn* (1942), *42nd Street* (1933) and *Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House* (1948). She was also credited as Louise Beaver on some productions.

Beavers made her feature debut in the silent film *Gold Diggers* (1923) and appeared in other early films such as *Uncle Tom's Cabin* (1927). With the advent of sound she took on numerous supporting roles. Her later career included television appearances as a housekeeper in the series *Beulah* (1952–53) and *The Danny Thomas Show* (1953–54). She was inducted posthumously into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame in 1976.
