## Biography

Lucille Fletcher was an American writer of radio plays, films, television and stage works. Born Violet Lucille Fletcher in Brooklyn, New York, she graduated from Vassar College in 1933 and worked at CBS as a typist, music librarian and publicity writer before turning to writing.

She is known for the radio plays *The Hitch-Hiker* (1941), later adapted for an episode of *The Twilight Zone* (1960), and *Sorry, Wrong Number* (1943), which she adapted for the 1948 film. Her stage play *Night Watch* was filmed in 1973. While married to composer Bernard Herrmann she wrote the libretto for his opera *Wuthering Heights*.
