## Biography

Luke Askew was an American actor. Born Francis Luke Askew on 26 March 1932 in Macon, Georgia, he attended the University of Georgia and Mercer University. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and appeared in Off-Broadway plays before entering film.

Askew made his screen debut in *Hurry Sundown* (1967). He played Boss Paul in *Cool Hand Luke* (1967) and the Stranger on Highway in *Easy Rider* (1969). Other film roles include Eno in *Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid* (1973). He appeared in numerous television series, among them *Bonanza*, *Mission: Impossible*, *The Rockford Files*, *MacGyver*, *Walker, Texas Ranger* and *Big Love*.

Askew died on 29 March 2012 in Oregon, aged 80.
