## Biography

Lula Carvalho is a Brazilian cinematographer. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1977, he is the son of cinematographer Walter Carvalho. He began working in the camera department as a child, loading film magazines at the age of ten, and later served as a first assistant camera and focus puller on numerous Brazilian features, including *City of God* (2002), *Behind the Sun* (2001) and *Carandiru* (2003).

Carvalho shot his first feature as director of photography on *Incuráveis* (2005). He is known for his work on *Elite Squad* (2007) and its sequel (2010), both directed by José Padilha, as well as the American productions *RoboCop* (2014) and *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* (2014), followed by the 2016 sequel. He joined the American Society of Cinematographers in 2022.
