Lyle Pearce Lovett is an American singer-songwriter and actor. Born on 1 November 1957 in Klein, Texas, he graduated from Texas A&M University with degrees in German and journalism before pursuing a music career in the 1980s.

Lovett made his feature acting debut as Detective DeLongpre in Robert Altman's *The Player* (1992). He subsequently appeared in three further Altman films: *Short Cuts* (1993) as Andy Bitkower, *Prêt-à-Porter* (1994) and *Cookie's Fortune* (1999). Other film roles include *The New Guy* (2002), *Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story* (2007) and *Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas* (1998).

On television he has played recurring or guest roles in series including *Blue Bloods* (as Major Waylon Gates), *Castle*, *The Bridge* and *Mad About You*.
