Fonseca began her career with a three-year role as Colleen Carlton on the CBS soap opera *The Young and the Restless* (2001–2005). She later had recurring parts on *How I Met Your Mother* (2005–2014) as Ted Mosby's future daughter, on *Desperate Housewives* (2007–2008) as Dylan Mayfair, and on *Big Love* (2006–2011). From 2010 to 2013 she starred as Alex Udinov on the CW series *Nikita*.

Her film roles include Katie Deauxma in *Kick-Ass* (2010) and *Kick-Ass 2* (2013), Jenny in *Hot Tub Time Machine* (2010), and Angie Martinelli in the series *Marvel's Agent Carter* (2015–2016).
