She began as a child model for Fairy Soap advertisements at the age of two and made her screen debut at five in the silent film *The Sign of the Cross* (1914). By the mid-1910s she had appeared in numerous East Coast productions. Evans made her Broadway debut in 1917 in *Peter Ibbetson* alongside John and Lionel Barrymore. She returned to the stage in the 1920s in productions including *Daisy Mayme* (1926) and *The Marquise* (1927). Signed by MGM, she appeared in 1930s films such as *Dinner at Eight* (1933) and *David Copperfield* (1935), in which she played Agnes Wickfield. She married playwright Sidney Kingsley in 1939 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
