Mae Whitman is an American actor. She was born on 9 June 1988 in Los Angeles, California. She began her career as a child in television commercials and made her film debut at the age of six in *When a Man Loves a Woman* (1994).

As a child actor she appeared in *Independence Day* (1996), *One Fine Day* (1996) and *Hope Floats* (1998), and had recurring television roles in *Chicago Hope* (1996–1999) and *JAG* (1998–2001). She later played Ann Veal in *Arrested Development* (2004–2006, 2013) and Amber Holt in *Parenthood* (2010–2015).

Whitman played Mary Elizabeth in *The Perks of Being a Wallflower* (2012). Her other film roles include *Scott Pilgrim vs. the World* (2010) and *The DUFF* (2015). She has also worked extensively as a voice actor, including as Katara in *Avatar: The Last Airbender* (2005–2008).
