## Biography

Maggie McNamara (also credited as Marguerite McNamara) was an American actress and model. Born in New York City on 18 June 1928, she began her career as a teenage fashion model before studying drama and dance. She made her Broadway debut in 1951 and replaced Barbara Bel Geddes in the lead role of *The Moon Is Blue* on stage.

Otto Preminger directed her in the 1953 film adaptation of *The Moon Is Blue*, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She followed this with the role of Maria Williams in *Three Coins in the Fountain* (1954) and appeared in *Prince of Players* (1955) and *The Cardinal* (1963). She also had guest roles in television series including *The Twilight Zone* and *The Alfred Hitchcock Hour*. McNamara retired from acting in the mid-1960s and died in New York City on 18 February 1978.
