Mahalia Jackson (26 October 1911 – 27 January 1972) was an American gospel singer who appeared in several films and documentaries. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, she performed as a choir soloist in *Imitation of Life* (1959) and played herself in *The Best Man* (1964).

Her archive footage features in *Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)* (2021) and *4 Little Girls* (1997). Jackson recorded around 30 albums and was associated with civil rights events through her performances.
