## Biography

Makhouredia Gueye, born Mamadou Guèye, was a Senegalese actor in film, theatre and television. He began his stage career in 1945 and was also a saxophonist. He is known for repeated collaborations with director Ousmane Sembène.

Gueye played Ibrahima Dieng in *Mandabi* (1968), the president in *Xala* (1975), and King Demba War Thioub in *Ceddo* (1977). His other film credits include *Lambaaye* (1972), *Garga M'Bossé* (1975), *Jom ou l'histoire d'un peuple* (1981), *Hyènes* (1992) and *Mossane* (1996). He appeared in Senegalese television productions such as *Xalima Mame Yalla* (1981).

Gueye died on 6 April 2008 in Dakar.
