## Biography

Makio Inoue (1938–2019) was a Japanese actor and voice actor. He began voice work in the 1960s with small roles in series such as *Astro Boy* and later voiced deep-voiced, serious male characters in 1970s anime.

He is best known for his long-running portrayal of Goemon Ishikawa XIII in the *Lupin the Third* franchise from 1977 to 2011, including the film *The Castle of Cagliostro* (1979), and for the title role in *Space Pirate Captain Harlock* from 1978 through the 1990s. He was succeeded as Goemon by Daisuke Namikawa. Other credits include William Albert Ardlay in *Candy Candy* (1976) and Enshirou Mariya in *Samurai Champloo* (2004).
