Marc Cherry is an American television writer and producer. He was born on 23 March 1962 in Long Beach, California. He graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a degree in theatre and began his career as a personal assistant to actress Dixie Carter before joining the writing staff of the sitcom *The Golden Girls* for its final two seasons in 1990–1992.

Cherry later co-created several short-lived series, including *The 5 Mrs. Buchanans* (1994) and *The Crew* (1995). He created the dramedy *Desperate Housewives* (2004–2012), which ran for eight seasons on ABC. He subsequently created *Devious Maids* (2013–2016) for Lifetime and *Why Women Kill* (2019–2021) for CBS All Access.
